Assoc Prof David McCombe

A/Prof David McCombe graduated from Medicine at the University of Melbourne in 1990 and went on to specialize in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. In 2000 he completed a Hand Surgery Fellowship with the Victorian Hand Surgery Associates in addition to a Microsurgery and Research Fellowship with the O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery at St Vincent’s Hospital from 2000 – 2001.  He sought further training in the United Kingdom with a Fellowship in Microsurgery and Children’s Hand Surgery at St James University Hospital in Leeds. 

A/Prof McCombe returned to Melbourne in 2003 to commence practice, specializing in adult and children’s hand surgery, peripheral nerve and reconstructive microsurgery. 

Today, A/Prof McCombe works as a Consultant Surgeon in the Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne and at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Kew, Fitzroy and East Melbourne.

He has been actively involved in the Australian Hand Surgery Society (AHSS), having served as Chairman of the AHSS Education Committee and President of the AHSS. He is also a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Surgery of the Hand.  He has been appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor in the University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics at the Royal Children’s Hospital and is involved in medical education programmes (both undergraduate and postgraduate) with the University of Melbourne and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
